Various – Vallende Ster EP [Alter Hour]
The London-based record label Alter Hour presents its first vinyl release titled “Vallende Ster EP” showcasing some exclusive underground sounds from around the world. The Various Artists compilation features four tracks signed by Romanian artists Macarie and Robert Apetrei, alongside Ted Amber and Lulla. Early support comes from the likes of Sublee, Vlad Arapasu and Nu Zau.
Releasing this wax was a natural step for Alter Hour, as the brand has been involved in organising events and promoting artists for some time now, showcasing some of the hidden treasures of the underground electronic dance music. Throughout time the imprint collaborated with names such as Sepp, Voigtmann, Sebastian Eric, Modebaku, Vlf, Yuda, Anthea, Lewis Oxley, Michael McLardy, Dudley Strangeways and Chris Boardman. ALTH001 reunites an array of distinguished artists bringing forward unique styles and concepts.
Cluj-based Dj and producer Macarie is well-known for his immersive and groovy selections as he shared the decks with many renowned artists like Barac, Lizz, Cosmjn, Gescu and Andrey Pushkarev, to name a few. Robert Apetrei continues to work on his solo career, dispatching more and more productions as time goes by. His recent activity includes releasing amazing music with VSA Records, Uvar and Miami-based Cedesciu Wax founded by Lulla, who’s also present on this VA. Completing the circle, Ted Amber, the co-founder of Botanic Minds and Hoxton Records steps in as well, adding smooth vibrations to the compilation.
Side A opens with Macarie‘s track titled “Plângând Pe Cal”, a groovy and hypnotic rhythm designed with solid percussion, playful melodic synths and subtle modulated vocal samples. Setting the pace of the VA, the cut features a distinct sound, perfect for the dancefloor. Next, there’s “Muru” delivered by Lulla, infused with a strong wobbling bassline, whirling sci-fi effects and bright evolving pads. The uplifting nature of the cut is provided by the percussion variations, creating tension as the sounds flow. On the flipside, we first find Robert Apetrei with “The Storm”, a deep and groovy rhythm that incorporates mesmerizing notes and intricate textures. The dreamy feeling of this cut is also present on Ted Amber‘s “Whispers”, a minimalistic and relaxed composition that closes the wax with style.
