Misbits’ Pick: Herck – Phonographic Frequencies

herck

Crickets, cracks, pops and bleeps: for an untrained ear into the Romanian wave of minimal house, what comes out from this part of the world in terms of undeground electronic music seems like an infinite string of abstract sounds, sewn on a simple 4/4 framework, boring at best.

Put these sounds on a proper sound system, set in a dark envirnoment, and we can guarantee you’ll discover this music from a whole different perspective. Subtle changes in the groove, a special gut feeling that has proved to be extremely addictive and that feeling of time slowing down. As a new generation of producers is starting to grow, expect different sonic paths to be carved into the Romanian electronic undeground.

Here is where we discovered Herck through his releases at Roche Madam or Curtea Veche, a series of amazing EPs started in 2018 to continue in 2019, for sure. His signature sound recently crossed on the other side of the Atlantic in the shape of Phonographic Frequencies, a 3-tracker signed at California based Muted Noise. Destined to create strong memories on the most pretentious dance floors, anchored in Herck’s appetite for bouncing his kicks back and forth both sides of the crowd’s brains, all tracks keep contact with the Romanian minimal legacy, bringing also some fresh stuff on the table. It’s up to you to discover it 😉
