Julian Bomm – Pilates EP [Why So Series]

Why So Series returns with another hot wax, signed by German artist Julian Bomm and titled “Pilates EP”. The 12” features four dance-oriented cuts flavoured with minimalistic house rhythms and marks the artist’s debut, as the pressing is his first vinyl release. Accustomed to the quality music provided by Nu Zau‘s notorious label, with artists like Giash, Diferit, Lumieux, Derek CarrLizzRojid and Sublee delivering smooth vibes, the release makes a great addition to the catalogue. Also, it places Julian on a successful path in his career as a music producer, his tracks being groovy and very enjoyable.

Julian Bomm is well-known for his deep and bassline-driven sets, and throughout time he enjoyed sharing the decks with artists like Fumiya Tanaka, tINI, Maayan Nidam, Sedee, Guy From Downstairs, Nastia, Mihai Popoviciu and DeWalta, among many many others. Since the summer of 2011, he’s a resident and integral part of Rheinrhythmik crew, a Cologne-based collective of creative friends, artists and music enthusiasts, organizing events in various indoor and outdoor locations. Aside from Germany, he travelled across Europe, playing amazing DJ sets in numerous locations, always surprising with his selections. At the same time he’s passionate about producing music, so we’ll sure hear more works coming from him in the future.

Side A opens with “May It Be”, a pumping composition that sets the pace of the EP. A strong and playful bassline leads the rhythm while the cut builds tension focusing on the background layers. Following, there’s “Attatack” a stripped-down house infused track, designed with a latin vocal sample as the main tool to tell the story and to make you dance. The melodic synths create deep moments, only to return to the energetic core. The vibe is transferred to Side B as well, “Noise Compression” providing a balanced minimalistic vibration on all frequencies. The dynamic percussion flows with elegance alongside the other effects and the wobbling bassline. A true dancefloor shaker, the energy it provides is also included in the closing track, titled “Droll”. Spiced with a tribal old school touch this sound will keep you mesmerised for days, concluding an amazing first EP.
