Xandru – Talma 22 EP [MuM Recordings]
Local artist Xandru signs the first vinyl published by MuM Recordings, a freshly founded record label based in Ibiza, Spain, home of the eponymous party brand. Titled “Talma 22 EP”, the 12” features three original tracks, delivering a vibrant mix of minimal and groovy tech house rhythms.
Evolving from a passion for electronic dance music, the concept behind MuM is simple: searching for quality party venues and offering something different in the form of musical continuity powered by vinyl and live performances of well-known artists. With music as a mean of expression in focus, the brand invited many DJs and producers behind the decks and hosts one of the favourite parties in the winter calendar on the island. There are related events taking place all over the year of course, yet establishing an imprint and releasing the first 12” it’s the proper next step.
Sornea Alexandru aka Xandru got into DJing at hip-hop events in Bucharest, mastering the decks in 2001 when he made an impact in the local underground scene. In time, he dedicated more and more time to electronic music and felt this to be his true calling. His potential to develop quickly, combined with a lot of hard work, led to him becoming a new member of the Sunrise family in 2010 and undoubtedly one to watch. With his innate sense of rhythm, the symbiosis of his mixes and productions always deliver amazing music. Labels like Welt Recordings, CrazyJack Records, LDN and Susur dispatched some of his compositions, and more will follow soon for sure.
Side A features the EP’s title track “Talma 22”, a groovy cut with a driving 4/4 percussion and subtle bright pads that provide the balance. The sequencing plays with your mind and warped vocal samples make you drift into Side B. “Hapcha” opens the flipside with a techy pumping rhythm infused with swirling melodic pads that morph into deep and wobbled reverberations. A smooth blend between deep house and tech patterns, the track delivers the vibes, playing out as a hypnotic dancefloor banger. Next and closing, there’s “Rod’s Broken Piano”, a funky slice on an uplifting note, featuring a long and deep push on the piano lead, as well as on the background layers. The intricate textures reveal a playful house-infused rhythm, that’s ready to rock any party!
