De-a lungul timpului, Cranes au avut o evolutie constanta, ramanand o trupa dinamica, dar enigmatica. Alison Shaw (vocal & textier), alaturi de fratele sau Jim, au conturat un proiect muzical dominat de chitari si aranjamente instrumentale care combinau intr-o maniera unica, un sound profund in stilul Joy Division cu vocea lui Alison.

La inceputurile anilor ’90 Cranes devenea una dintre cele mai importante trupe trance-pop/ indie si lanseaza o multime de albume de succes cu aceeasi amprenta melodica de voci eterice si riff-uri de chitara.

Primul lor album “Self Non Self” i-a atras atentia lui John Peel. Cranes a semnat un contract cu Dedicated/BMG pentru sase albume, iar dupa lansarea“Wings of Joy”, Cranes sunt invitati sa deschida concertele trupei The Cure in turneul “Wish” din 1992, performand alaturi de ei in 101 de locatii mari (arenae & stadioane) din Europa si SUA.

In 1997 britanicii decid sa se desparta, insa dupa o perioada de pauza, Jim si Alison reiau activitatea trupei si marcheaza revenirea cu lansarea a inca 3 albume ,“FutureSongs” (2001), “Particles and Waves” (2004) si “Cranes” (2008), cu influente electronice eperimentale, care aduc o noua perspectiva foarte bine primita de public si de presa de specialitate.

In prezent, Cranes lucreaza la un nou material discografic care va fi lansat in 2013.

Cranes’ last two albums signified a musical shift by extending their interest in glimmering electronic melodies and more gently contemplative song structures, eschewing the distortion-driven dissonance and upfront drumbeats of past recordings. On tracks such as “Feathers” and “Wires”, the guitar work remains delicate in tone and slides with casual grace into the lovely pulse of the keyboard motif, creating a mysterious swirl of stripped-down beauty.
