Cntrl / Matt Star – Split EP
Leftback Records, a record label and vinyl shop based in UK, releases its 12th installment featuring the newcomer CNTRL and Matt Star, a regular for the vinyl-only label.
We get off to a very interesting start as CNTRL serves a very groovy and bass heavy affair with Lopitch. An atmospheric vibe comes out of nowhere when the bass line disappears but as the percussions and hi-hats slowly come back together with the bass line, your feet will move instantly.
Resolute goes to a more micro house corner with its linear bass line and minimal vibes making sure this one is just the thing for a warm-up set somewhere in a dark room. But the unexpected remains present here too and a stunning vocal comes straight at you offering a necessary wave of energy.
The last track has a German flavour attached to it as Matt Star takes us on a dubby journey across the world of minimal techno. It is a nice contrast to the powerful bass lines we found in the first two tracks and it completes the EP nicely.
