Between November 23 and 30 at ARCUB Gabroveni (Str. Lipscani, no. 84-90) takes place the exhibition concluding the events organized by Save or Cancel the Cinema / Summer Theatre Capitol this summer. The exhibition can be visited for a week, starting at 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

During the exhibition, the public can browse through the new Cinema / Summer Theatre Capitol booklet, video-conclusion that presents the highlights of the six events that took place this summer.

You can also see the posters made by the workshop next to the Jumătatea Plină bookstore and reinterpreted by artists and the public, expressing ideas about possible scenarios in which Cinema / Summer Theatre Capitol can change. Save or Cancel‘s vision for the future of the theatre and a historical study argue for turning the monument into a cultural hub.

Capitol Theatre Summer Exhibition

From August 11th to September 17th 2016, Save or Cancel led an awareness and sensitization campaign about the national heritage, which is aimed at revitalizing Cinema / Theatre Summer Capitol as an independent cultural hub.

Capitol Theatre Summer Exhibition at ARCUB

Summer Theatre Capitol (str. Constantin Mille, no. 13) is disposed in an area recognized for creative activities and is a monument of national heritage: In 1916, the architect Nicolae Nenciulescu realised Cinema / Theatre Summer Capitol in an eclectic way and in 1938 architect Henrieta Delavrancea restored the façade and the foyer in a modernistic style. The theatre is a symbol in the local community and is capable of having network connections with other independent hubs. The monument is reintroduced in the public discussion through democratic reinterpretation of the urban space as a cultural one, exploring the links between art, nature and the city.

Acute need for independent spaces dedicated to culture is demonstrated by the existence of numerous artists and art promoters applying for grants or initiating self-financed activities and the recent closure of most cultural spaces in buildings with seismic risk, particularly cinemas and art galleries.
